I’m a graduate student in studio art researching the the cabinet of curiosity, specifically the way it pulled from both the human and natural objects to weave a personal history of the collector. These cabinets become a way to visualize how we are constantly exploring the boundaries between the natural and human worlds, ways that are often expressed in historical and contemporary visual culture. This blog is dedicated to the things that inspire me from nature, history and the present, becoming my own visual cabinet of curiosity. The name Pteridomania was chosen because it is the Victorian era craze for collecting and identifying ferns, a specific moment in history that talks about how those human/nature relationships are formed and turned into romantic, sensationalized manifestations.
